Central and Local Regulatory Processes Modulate Shell Building in Bivalves

DM POWER

Professor’s talk will be around current understanding of the regulatory processes controlling shell growth.

Abstract

A defining characteristic of bivalves is the presence of a hard mineralized structure, the shell. The mantle is the shell forming organ, which secretes the shell matrix proteins and a complex genetic machinery involving genes, transcription factors and non-coding RNA are responsible for the exuberant forms, organization, and colour of bivalve shells.

Bio

Professor Deborah studies the maintenance of homeostasis in a changing world. The endocrine and neurendocrine system are crucial for homeostasis and organism survival and drives evolution and adaptation to an ever changing environment.
