This is the first seminar of the EUREMAP seminar series, hosted by project partner CCMAR. Dr Jeanette  Hammer Andersen, the project coordinator, will introduce the project and its ambition. We are delighted to introduce Dr Rohan Davis from the  Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics, Griffith University, Queensland, Australia who will provide a seminar about his work in the context of NatureBank a unique Australian biodiscovery resource. His talk is entitled Biodiscovery Using Great Barrier Reef Marine Sponges.

You are warmly invited to attend two presentations:
“EUREMAP: European Research Infrastructure for Marine Bioprospecting – A Unique Partnership to Facilitate the Discovery of Novel Natural Products” by Jeanette Hammer Andersen, and “Biodiscovery Using Great Barrier Reef Marine Sponges” by Rohan Davis.

About the Speakers

Jeanette Hammer Andersen

Jeanette Hammer Andersen is the coordinator of the EUREMAP project. She is a professor in marine bioprospecting at UiT and head of the natural products platform Marbio at UiT. Marbio has expertise in screening of extract libraries of natural product, including both terrestrial and marine micro- and macroorganisms, and has successfully characterized several novel bioactive compounds.  In 2022, Andersen co-founded KinSea Lead Discovery AS, that has the mission to exploit the potential of marine bioactives for the treatment of human diseases.

Rohan Davis

BIOSKETCH:  Rohan’s research involves all aspects of biodiscovery including the isolation and structure elucidation of complex natural compounds, generation of natural product-based extract and fraction libraries for HTS, as well as the design and synthesis of unique discovery libraries. Rohan has authored 183 publications, holds 2 patents and has been awarded >$5M in research funding over the past 10 years. In 2023 and 2024 he was recognised by ClarivateTM as a “highly cited” researcher. Rohan has led both industry and academic projects that have resulted in the identification of >1000 natural products from plant, marine invertebrate, mushroom and microbial sources. A/Prof. Davis is the Manager of NatureBank, a unique Australian biodiscovery resource located at Griffith University.
