Talks

Professor Deborah Power: short overview of the EUREMAP project and its role as a European research infrastructure for marine biodiscovery.

Dr. Jianjun Cheng: Targeting Aminergic GPCRs for Neuropsychiatric Drug Discovery.

In this talk, Dr. Jianjun Cheng will discuss how drugs targeting GPCRs are important therapeutic agents for treating neuropsychiatric diseases. However, the complexity of GPCR structure and function poses significant challenges for the rational design of such drugs. Recent advances in structural biology are enabling new opportunities for structure-based drug design. Dr. Cheng will present examples of structure-guided rational design of subtype-selective ligands, biased agonists, and polypharmacological drugs targeting GPCRs.

About the speakers

Professor Deborah Power is a Professor of Biotechnology at the Universidade do Algarve and Principal Investigator at CCMAR. Her research focuses on understanding whole-organism physiology and adaptation, from molecules to populations, and translating this knowledge for applications in aquaculture and biotechnology.

Dr. Jianjun Cheng is a medicinal chemist whose research focuses on GPCR-targeted drug discovery. He has published over 50 research papers and led the discovery of three preclinical drug candidates, two of which are currently in clinical studies.
