Scientific context

Since RNA emerged from the shadow of DNA it has become one of the hottest research areas of molecular biology. The study of RNA biology has implications for many diseases as well as for understanding regulation of gene expression, translation, and ultimately evolution. In recent years, ribozymes, miRNA, siRNAs and many other functional noncoding RNA types have been discovered and evidences indicate that RNA dictates the expression of genetic information and the control of metabolism. RNA is also deeply involved with the movement of high-order complex characteristics during development, differentiation, and the onset of diseases. The major objective of the workshop is to promote the dialog between experts concerned with different areas of RNA Biology such as (a) Transcription, (b) Ribosomal RNA/tRNA, (c) RNA structure, (d) RNA degradation and quality control, and (e) Small RNAs.

The number of about 100 participants will promote fruitful exchange and discussions. There will be no parallel sessions. We will have about 40 slots for oral presentations, from 30 or 15 min, as well as opening and closing lectures on relevant topics. In addition 3 networking slots are included in the program, leaving time for short discussions among participants, as well as a poster session where discussions will also be welcome. Part of the second afternoon will be left for social/touristic activities, letting you explore the beautiful surroundings since the hotel is inserted in a natural park and in front of a large beach.
