Gil Martins has been an integral part of CCMAR ever since his Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology. He went on to pursue a Master’s in Fisheries and Aquaculture, and is now approaching the final milestone of his PhD in Biomedical Sciences.

Throughout his academic path, Gil’s research has focused on fish skeletal development, with a particular interest in skeletal anomalies that occur in aquaculture. His contributions include the development of larval feeding protocols, identifying nutritional requirements, and studying their effects on bone formation in fish.

More recently, his curiosity led him to explore the impact of bacterial infections on skeletal health. His PhD work is now centered on understanding how bacterial lipopolysaccharides affect skeletal homeostasis—a crucial step toward improving fish welfare in production environments.

As he reaches this major achievement, let’s show up and support Gil in this important chapter of his scientific career!
