Aquaculture is an important productive sector in the SUDOE region, due to its high social and economic importance and growth potential. The competitiveness of the aquaculture industry depends greatly on the development of new biotechnology tools for productivity enhancement and to overcome adversities such as diseases. The AQUAGENET is an EU project that aims to increase the knowledge about the genome and genetic resources of aquaculture species produced in the SUDOE region. AQUAGENET is also devoted to develop technologies to be applied in the aquaculture industry such as vaccines and nanotechnology. The use of biotechnology tools on the development of the aquaculture industry, with a special focus on genomic advances, will be discussed in this workshop.
