Led by João Varela and Luísa Barreira, the MarBiotech group contributes to CCMAR’s thematic line “Marine Products and Resources” by researching microalgae and other marine organisms to isolate bioactive compounds as well as novel microalgal strains and their associated microbiome to improve productivity, the value of biomass, and reuse of nutrients while bioremediating wastewater.
