I earned my PhD in Marine Ecology from the Ensenada Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education (CICESE) in Mexico. I then pursued postdoctoral research at the Institute for Coral Reef Systems Puerto Morelos (National Autonomous University of Mexico), followed by a position as a visiting professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Brazil. I later joined the Center of Marine Sciences (CCMAR) in Portugal as a Marie Curie Fellow.
My research explores the functioning of marine benthic habitats—from individual calcifying organisms to entire communities—and how they respond to both global and local environmental stressors. I’m particularly interested in understanding the carbon and carbonate dynamics of habitats formed by calcifiers, and in assessing the resilience and vulnerability of these ecosystems in the face of climate change and other interacting pressures.
