A Marine Scientist - Physical Oceanographer, with wide experience in analyzing and managing marine data. She is an expert in ocean observations, observation networks, and in situ wave measurements using buoys and acoustic sensors. Her expertise extends to the coordination of both scientific and commercial projects, focusing on data acquisition, quality control, and network management.
Currently, she is a Senior Oceanographer at IPMA (the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere) (2025), and is an active member of the Fishing Vessel Ocean Observing Network (FVON). She also contributes to projects involving FerryBox systems, ARGO Programme, and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD).
Previously, she worked at the Portuguese Hydrographic Institute (2011 - 2024) working in the MONIZEE project (The Monitoring and Operational Forecasting System of the Portuguese EEZ) as technical adviser on the Portuguese buoy network and expert for wave measurements. She held the position of the Portuguese National Focal Point WMO – IOC UNESCO Data Buoy Cooperation Panel (DBCP), and was an Executive Board Member of the DBCP. Additionally, she served as the National Focal Point for the E-SURFMAR Programme (European Surface Marine Operational Service) as part of the Data Buoy Expert Team.
She also served as a Lieutenant in the Portuguese Navy (2006 - 2010), where she participated in oceanographic cruises (seagoing operations). Her responsibilities included the collection and analysis of CTD data and water samples, as well as involvement in military exercises aboard oceanographic research vessels. She contributed to various R&D projects and played a key role in planning and coordinating oceanographic missions. Additionally, she was involved in the development of wave analysis software and the acquisition, analysis, and processing of wave data.
