This is the second seminar of the EUREMAP seminar series, hosted by CCMAR, as part of the CCMAR Seminar Program.
We are pleased to announce that Prof. Deborah Power will host this session and provide an introduction to the seminar topic within the scope of the EUREMAP project.
We are also delighted to welcome Dr. Luísa Custódio, who will deliver the main scientific presentation. Her talk will delve into the core research themes explored in the project, offering valuable insights into the scientific objectives and methodologies.
Talks
- Introduction: EUREMAP towards an integrated Marine Bioprospecting Pipeline
Speaker: Deborah M Power
Summary: Prof Power will present the Technology platforms for Biodiscovery at CCMAR and place this in the context of CCMAR's participation in the project EUREMAP (European Research Infrastructures for Marine Bioprospecting). This project aims to leverage the expertise in the area of marine bioprospecting of 4 research infrastructures to create and offer an integrated biodiscovery pipeline accessible for researchers and companies from around the world.
- Title: Harnessing Halophytes for Biotech in a Changing Climate
Speaker: Luísa Custódio
Summary: This seminar will explore the potential of halophytes (salt-tolerant plants), as valuable resources for sustainable biotechnological innovation. In the face of increasing soil salinization and climate change, halophytes emerge as resilient species with diverse applications across key sectors. This talk will highlight recent advances in the bioprospecting of halophytes for use in human health, veterinary, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, saline agriculture and phytoremediation.
