Our services

Our services

We provide research and technology services advanced by our R&D capacity in scientific areas such as aquaculture, biotechnology, biomedicine, fisheries, biodiversity and marine conservation.

From supplying marine organisms for study purposes, through the experimentation and laboratory analysis phases, to analysing large amounts of data, we provide a wide range of services that support researchers through all steps of their research pipeline.

Who can use our services?

Our services are available to researchers and organisations outside CCMAR, including not only the scientific and academic world, but also the business sector, industry and public institutions. We offer different types of services according to the needs of those who come to us.

What kind of services do we offer?

Our services aim to meet the needs of researchers and industry. These needs can be quite simple, such as providing biological samples or carrying out laboratory analyses that have already been tabulated. We also offer more complex assistance involving different analyses using top-of-the-range equipment or entire consultancy processes that include planning, executing and analysing results.

How can you access the services?

  • On-site - The user has direct access to the resources and equipment at CCMAR's own facilities.

  • Remotely - The user does not physically travel to the facilities, since the services are guaranteed by CCMAR's technical-scientific team.

Consultancy Services

We offer consultancy services for the develpment of research activities with a view to developing solutions, products or new scientific knowledge. To this end, we follow a multidisciplinary approach articulated through close collaboration between our research groups in order to respond to the most complex needs of our partners in companies, industry or public institutions.

Technology Platforms

Our technology platforms, equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation, enable high-precision chemical and structural analyses, advanced bioimaging solutions, biological assays, and cutting-edge research in molecular biology. This integrated environment is supported by a highly skilled technical and scientific team, combining extensive expertise with advanced capabilities in analytical methods and data interpretation.
We also offer innovative aquatic animal tracking through acoustic telemetry, providing privileged access to unique ecosystems along the Algarve and Arrábida coasts to support frontier scientific research.

Our services follow your line of enquiry

The link between our different services allows for continuity in scientific research, particularly in the fields of bioprospecting and biodiscovery.

1º When collecting data

Researchers can use our services to collect biological samples, access our ecosystems  to collect a wide variety of samples and use our experimentation stations to identify and quantify the compounds present in these samples.

Our scientific diving centre team can also help with data collection.

2º When identifying and isolating samples

Partners can also take advantage of CCMAR's digital services and the help of our bioinformaticians who provide support and technical advice for analysing the data.

Once the compounds have been identified, researchers can test their bioactivity by carrying out bioassays on living organisms and/or in vitro tests with cell lines, and visualise biological processes in real time using bioimaging techniques. At CCMAR, we have experience in isolating compounds from marine organisms, such as partially purified chemical fractions that act as anti-tumour agents, anti-parasitic agents and pheromones.

3º In the final analysis

Finally, in compounds with proven bioactivity, it is possible to identify their chemical composition through our structural chemical analysis services. This is crucial to the commercial application of the generated knowledge, for example in the chemical synthetisation of the discovered compounds, which will allow them to be synthesised for commercial application.

How do I access CCMAR's services?

To access our services you should contact the Technologies and Services Centre. This is the unit that manages CCMAR's research services, as well as all our services included in research infrastructures such as EMBRC.PTBiodata.pt and EMSO-PT.

FAQs

Contact the Technologies and Services Centre, indicating your research needs and the services you want to access.

Phone: 289 800 051 ext. 230710

E-mail: ccmarcts@ualg.pt

Our team will assess the request and provide all the necessary support to realise it. Special attention is paid to the quality of the services provided, quick response time, affordable costs and full integration with the objectives of CCMAR and the applicant.

The Technologies and Services Centre is responsible for:

  • Transmitting the rules and ensuring that visitors and projects are integrated into the infrastructure programme.
  • Help with access to the facilities.
  • Providing technical support.
  • Supporting administrative and financial procedures, institutional protocols, licences or issues related to animal experimentation, safety and intellectual property.
  • Coordinating each service, which will have a service technician responsible for day-to-day operations and ensuring total satisfaction in line with the research groups involved.

For companies, industry and public institutions - which do not have dedicated research units - CCMAR offers consultancy services, through which the entire research and innovation process is planned and executed by our technical-scientific team. Contact us to identify your needs.

Services can be accessed according to various protocols: Request, Service Provision Contract, Collaboration Agreement or Transnational Infrastructure Access Contract.

CCMAR's services are available to researchers through services:

  • On site - The researchers themselves have direct access to the resources and equipment on CCMAR's own premises.
  • Remotely - Researchers do not physically travel to the facilities, since the services are guaranteed by CCMAR's technical-scientific team.

Our team can provide researchers with the technical training they need to use certain equipment.

If the necessary training cannot be delivered, or if the researcher wishes to receive the results of the analysis without having to carry out laboratory work, they can choose to use our technological platforms through remote services, which include various laboratory analyses for which our team has developed robust analytical methods.
