observatório marinho do algarve

CCMAR is pleased to invite you to the public launch of the Algarve Marine Observatory (OMA), a new initiative born from the intersection of science, industry, and sustainability.

Drawing on CCMAR's extensive research expertise, the Algarve Marine Observatory is launching a new portfolio aimed at fostering collaboration between marine scientists and businesses. If your company operates in tourism, marine services, infrastructure, or other coastal-related industries, this initiative invites forward-thinking businesses to collaborate with leading marine researchers to make visible, credible, and high-impact contributions to ocean health.

The Observatory’s mission is to promote innovation and decarbonisation in the Algarve’s tourism sector, starting with a strategic collaboration with the hospitality industry. Grounded in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles and sustainability, the initiative seeks to strengthen the link between academia and the region’s key economic stakeholders, building solutions that place sustainability at the heart of regional innovation.

OMA already brings together prominent investment groups operating in the Algarve, businesses from related sectors, local authorities, and CCMAR researchers.

With the support of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission and under application for recognition from the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science, OMA positions itself as a key tool to accelerate sustainable transition and establish the Algarve as a leading reference in the blue economy and responsible tourism.
