Ecotoxicology and Chemical Oceanography
Group leaders
Caio Cesar Ribeiro
The group focuses on the chemical dynamics of marine systems, with an emphasis on biogeochemical cycling (carbon, nutrients, trace metals), pollutant fate and ecotoxicology, and the effects of anthropogenic stressors—such as deep-sea mining, ocean acidification, and emerging contaminants—on marine organisms and ecosystems. I am actively involved in multidisciplinary projects addressing carbon sequestration in polar regions, functional plankton ecology (e.g., coccolithophores), and nature-based climate solutions, including ocean alkalinity enhancement.
