Julia started her PhD at CCMAR where she will test technological innovations to rebuild Portuguese marine seagrass meadows and value their ecosystem services. Welcome!

Tell us a bit about the work you are/will be doing at CCMAR.
I recently started as a PhD student at CCMAR under the supervision of Aschwin Engelen (BEE-group) and João Silva (ALGAE-group), in the field of seagrass restoration. This project aims to test technological innovations to rebuild Portuguese marine seagrass meadows and value their ecosystem services, to contribute to building a sustainable blue economy based on resilient and abundant marine natural capitals.

What were you doing before you joined us?
Before I moved to Portugal I worked as a high school teacher in The Netherlands.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
In my free time, I enjoy being outside and practising sports under which diving, surfing & biking. I like to play music, discover new places and have adventures. Portugal is luckily very suitable for this!
