Hanna Zabakh is joining CCMAR to investigate biodiversity and the taxonomy of marine algae on the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts and also to investigate the pharmacological activities of marine macroalgae.

 

1. Tell us a bit about the work you’ll be doing at CCMAR.

I will focus in particular on two topics. The first one is studying the biodiversity and taxonomy of marine algae from the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts. The second topic is to investigating the pharmacological activities of marine macroalgae.

 

2. What were you doing before you joined us?

I have worked as Post-Doctorate researcher at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Graz, Austria. During this postdoctoral position, I took part in 2 projects focusing on the search for novel natural anti-inflammatory drugs. Moreover, I have worked as Post-Doctorate researcher in the Faculty of Sciences - University of Abdelmalek Essaadi in Tetouan – Morocco. I was interested in discovering bioactive molecules from marine algae with antitumor, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities.

 

3. What are your interests and hobbies when you’re not doing science?

I like active vacation, travelling, visiting new places and discovering new cultures. I love to go to the nature and do sports. I also enjoy spending my free time with my family and friends.
