Matthew Castaldi has joined the BioSkel and MarBioTech labs in conjunction with Necton to study the nutritional requirements of fish larva. Welcome on board Matthew!

1. Tell us a bit about the work you’ll be doing at CCMAR.

I will be working in the BioSkel and MarBioTech labs in conjunction with Necton to develop a rotifer microalgae enrichment for zebrafish and gain a better understanding of larval nutritional requirements.

2. What were you doing before you joined us?

I received a BSc in nutrition and food science at the University of Vermont in 2013. After, I managed an oyster farm in Rhode Island until 2017 when I moved to Portugal to study aquaculture.

3. What are your interests and hobbies when you’re not doing science?

I enjoy travelling to new places, reading and being outdoors hiking, surfing, fishing and skiing. When I am not outdoors, I like to cook as I find it relaxing and I eat a lot.
