Introduction

CCMar - Centre of Marine Sciences is promoting a competition for the elaboration of a Business Plan for the Central of Technologies and Services of the Centre of Marine Sciences.

The idea of opening a competition for the elaboration of a Business Plan for the Technology platform and Services of the Centre of Marine Sciences, designated by PN_CCMAR, originated through the project ShareBiotech – Sharing life science infrastructures and skills to benefit the Atlantic area biotechnology sector – co-financed by the cooperation program of European Territory INTERREG Atlantic Space 2007-13.

This projects main goal is to reinforce the biotechnology sector in the Atlantic Space, maximizing the benefits to be derived from the existing infrastructures and establishing the R&D capacities in this area of Life Science. The project aims to promote the sharing of knowledge and technologies transversally across sectors (health, marine, food, etc.) and between Academics and SMEs, in this way reinforcing access to services based on biotechnology and favouring the penetration of biotechnology in all production sectors, so as to increase the attractiveness and visibility of the Atlantic Space.

After the identification and evaluation of regional needs in the Atlantic space in terms of existing capacities and offers of biotechnology based services, Technology Core Facilities – TCF (or technological platforms) were mapped in ShareBiotech project partner regions. This mapping had as a principal objective to identify biotechnology needs in R&D and SMEs in the Atlantic Space and match them when possible to TCFs which could respond to the specific needs identified. In this sense, and in line with the aim of improving the service quality of the identified TCFs, the target-platform selected for this activity in the Algarve region is CCMar.
