Topic:
The environment in which fishes are farmed is mostly barren, lacking any structures other than the ones necessary for technical reasons and convenient for fish-farmers. From a fish welfare perspective, the rearing environment should provide more challenges or stimuli to fish, which might help to improve the welfare status. In species such as sea bass or sea bream, this might be feasible by providing structural complexity in the environment, but this knowledge is still in its infancy.
