On September 25th, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, the University of Algarve's Center for Marine Sciences (CCMAR), as the driving force behind the Algarve Marine Observatory (OMA), will celebrate National Sustainability Day with an event at the University of Algarve's Caixa Geral de Depósitos Grand Auditorium, on the Gambelas campus.
The event will be dedicated to the future of the ocean and the practices that ensure its preservation—on this occasion, blue carbon and invasive species management.
The meeting, in partnership with the Ocean Forum, aims to showcase OMA's actions as a scientific engine that, through the expertise of CCMAR researchers, aims to bring together science, business, and society around a common goal: protecting marine biodiversity and strengthening Portugal's role as an international benchmark in sustainability.
This event is part of the 6 months - 6 events initiative, which aims to discuss key themes each month to be addressed at the Algarve Sea Forum, which will take place on March 26, 2026. The OMA thus aims to discuss with interested parties the protection and management of the sea asset, both at a scientific and political level, in order to contribute to the economic improvement of the region and to the development of the various industrial sectors linked to the ocean.
