Miguel Gandra is reaching his final PhD milestone. He's been working at CCMAR in projects such as BECORV and more recently Mapping Sharks.
Thesis Title: Understanding Behavioural Rules in Movements of Marine Megafauna
Throughout his academic journey, Miguel has been dedicated to the study of ecology, conservation and monitoring of large marine organisms, with a particular focus on sharks and marine megafauna. His research combines biologging and biotelemetry techniques to understand movement patterns, habitat use and large-scale ecological processes, as well as analyses that assess the impacts of commercial fishing on the variability and genetic differentiation of populations. At the same time, Miguel is strongly committed to science communication, translating complex scientific results into accessible digital content through underwater images and 3D animations, contributing to public awareness, environmental education and support for ocean conservation.
As he reaches this important stepping stone, we invite the CCMAR community to come together and support Miguel in this significant moment of his scientific career.
