The Algarve Marine Observatory, an initiative endorsed by CCMAR, is organising another meeting in the “6 months, 6 events” cycle on 10 November at 2.30 pm at CCDR Algarve in Faro, this time dedicated to World Science Day for Peace and Development. This will be the third event in a programme that aims to promote dialogue, knowledge and collaborative action around the current challenges facing the ocean and the emerging opportunities for the region.
Ocean governance in the spotlight
The session brings together experts with the aim of sharing strategic knowledge on the new dynamics associated with marine governance and the sustainable use of its resources. The initiative is aimed particularly at local authorities, businesses and the academic community, supporting the preparation of informed responses to the impacts of structural changes in ocean management policies.
Among the central themes are the Treaty on the High Seas (BBNJ) and the implementation of Ocean Accounts, instruments that are expected to directly influence sectors such as:
- Fisheries
- Tourism
- Marine biotechnology
- Offshore energy
- Ports
- Conservation
- Technological innovation
These changes will have implications for investment attraction, certification, regional planning and environmental monitoring.
Contribution to the 1st Algarve Sea Forum 2026
The meeting is part of the pre-launch cycle of the 1st Algarve Sea Forum, scheduled for 26 March 2026, which will explore these issues in greater depth and contribute to the development of regional strategies with a national impact.
